Kulungwana in collaboration with Eksteen inArt Gallery of South Africa presents an innovative way to stimulate and support the art community.

The Creative Block, which started in 2004, is a creative outlet for contemporary artists as well as collectors.

Established and emerging artists are invited to produce work on blocks of 18x18cm in any way they choose, promoting fresh creative exploration among even the most established styles.

Cartaz Ricardo rangel — Photo exhibition of Ricardo Rangel

The exhibition "Revisitar Ricardo Rangel" is an homenage to the dean of Mozambican photography and shows photos taken by Ricardo Rangel from the late 50's to the independence of Mozambique in 1975.
His photographs are hitness to his love for the human being and his hate for injustice.
The Publication of many of his photos was not allowed by the colonial censorship and many of his negatives were destroyed by the colonial fascist regime.

The works in this exhibition may be looked at from the point of view of their proximity or their distance as related to the materials used and the forms created.
The artists explore different possibilities of confronting expressions, using as point of departure the transformation and integration of objects and materials taken from their usual environment and altered and integrated in new forms of cultural expression.

Exhibition of artists selected for participation in "Colecção Crescente" Project

80 works (18cm X 18cm) by 40 artists, grab a chance to view the art works presented to the jury panel as part of the artist selection process for the official Colecção Crescente exhibition in 2011, inspired by The Creative Block project of South Africa.

The Colecção Crescente competition stimulates and supports the artistic community in Mozambique by showcasing up and coming alongside established artists.

Visitors were asked to vote three or four works they considered being of the highest quality and demonstrating the most creativity. Works which got the most votes were:

Collective Exhibition
Inspired by an art movement of the 60`s in the past century, which introduced found objects (objets trouvés) into the art world. “Objet trouvé “ was the term applied in the 20th century to existing objects, manufactured or of natural origin, used in, or as, works of art.
It is a strong combination of art with life and a new viewpoint by the fact that “*“a thing is not what it is, it becomes something different from what it is”*. (Jasper Johns)
