Michael Cañhadas — Michael graduated in 1999 with an Associates Degree in Conservation, and obtained a diploma in wildlife rehabilitation. However, his creativity and inspiration as an artist reclaimed a part in his life and he started an apprenticeship, in an art foundry. In 2000 he was offered the opportunity to buy the foundry which became The Loop Bronze Atelier. He is now fully qualified in all aspects of bronze casting and mould making. The artist is also vastly experienced in bronze patination, and offers these services to numerous artists.

“My ideas represent the emotions of life, the cycles and thoughts we go through everyday. Things we see, things we experience and everything we think about. I try to see these images from the perspective of the emotion and what it must be like to sit on that side of the fence. After all, these emotions where given to us to experience and to teach us, and to take us to deeper levels of understanding. To me it is very rewarding to see how another person perceives these images, and to see their own creativity come to life, as they try to understand the image, and what feelings it brings up for them. Sometimes it is also nice to create something without any deep thought or planning. And to listen how people dissect it, and come up with their own ideas.” Michael Cañadas.

**Mieke Oldenburg** was born in the Netherlands and currently lives in Maputo, Mozambique.
Graduated from Academy of Fine Arts Minerva, Groningen, Netherlands and Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp, Belgium. He was resident artist at the European Center of Ceramics, Heusden, Netherlands.
From 1975 - 2008 working in the Netherlands and Mozambique. Uses clay and bronze in the creation of their works.

Its works were bought by several museums, businesses and individuals. Received several orders of
books and pictures to, among others, the Bank Van Lanschot, VSM and several architects in the Netherlands.
Also executed orders for portraits in bronze, promotional gifts for companies and reliefs celebrating.

Born in Matebele (Bulawayo), Zimbabwe, 1942. Studied and graduated in Graphic Arts at Johannesburg School of Arts and Design.
Worked as photojournalist in Southern Africa and, from 1975 onwards, as a photographer and documentary film maker in Mozambique.

Had solo exhibition, *Ilha de Moçambique*, at Libreria Paese Nuove, Rome, 1979. Founded and directed Galeria Moira, Lisbon, 1989-2001.
Managing director of music festivals in Viana do Castelo (Portugal) and Director of International Music Festival Maputo (Mozambique).
As a photographer, she learned from great South African photographers, such as Jurgen Schadaberg, David Goldblatt and Sam Haskins; as a film maker, she was influenced by Jean Rouch and Jean-Luc Godard, and worked as an assistant to Rui Guerra and José Fonseca e Costa, in Mozambique.

Naftal Langa

Naftal Langa was born in 1932 in Mandlakaze, where he completed his studies. At the age of 17, he moved to Lourenço Marques (today Maputo), attracted by the cosmopolitan city. After a number of difficulties and changes, he started sculpting with master Chissano, who also was from Mandlakaze. As he was used to work with wood, as traditionally ,in the family the utensils were made of wood, he progressed very quickly and became the extraordinary sculptor he is today.

naguib — **Abdula Naguib Elias** was born in Tete in 1955.

After their studies in the College of St. Joseph of Tete, is the course of Construction in Maputo.
He continued his studies at the Fine Arts School in Lisbon and is training in Serigraphy Artist at the University of Cape Town and the Conservation and Restoration of works of art in the Kunst Museum in Cologne in Germany, and an internship in the Department of Visual Arts and scenic University of Northumbria in England.

In 1975, exactly one year after the independence of Mozambique, starts his artistic career.

Naguib is a founding member of the FDC (Foundation for Community Development) of the ASEM, the Movement of Artists Against Poverty, UNDP, 1 Artist 1 Gesto (Humanization of Hospitals). It is also founder and owner of Space Art - Space Literature.

He made several murals in the city of Maputo, including "Ode a Samora Machel, the Marginal in Maputo and "The pathways of water, the reservoir's water Maxaquene.

In 2006 was Visiting Professor at the University of São Paulo, Brazil.

Ndlozi — **Sebastião Armando Jonze**, artistic name **Ndlozy**, was born in 1970.
In 1988 he was a student of Master Chissano. In 1992 he received a scholarship of USA.
Ndlozy, sculptor, creates his works from variety of wood (sandal wood, ebony), but recently also from marble and soap stone.
His work is represented in the National Arte Museum-Maputo and in many private collections in Mozambique and abroad. His works belong in the collections of eminent persons, such as the ex-President of South Africa- Nelson Mandela, Graça Machel and Also Ajello. He is also represented in the State House in Tilburg-Netherlands.

neto — **Ernesto João Tembe (Neto)** was born in Lourenço Marques (today Maputo) in 1959.
Graduated in Visual Arts at the Industrial School Mouzinho de Albuquerque. In 1976 he continued his studies in painting and design at the Centre for Cultural Studies.
He worked at the National Art Museum in Maputo and the National Museum of Ethnology in Nampula.

He started painting in 1976 and became a full time painter since 1983. He also works as an illustrator.

**Artur Vicente Junior (Nhongwene)** was born in 1978 in Luabo in Zambezia Province. He finished his secondary studies at the Josina Machel School in Maputo.

**Noel Langa** was born in Mandlhlakaze, Gaza province in 1938.
He got his taste for ceramics from his mother. Still very young, at watching his mother moulding a piece, he promised himself to become an artist.
Believing that the land where he was born did not offer him a future, he moved to Lourenço Marques (today Maputo), where, in order to survive he learned a number of skills.
In 1960 he began to study decorative painting and started his artistic career.
